Toco Foundation (TF) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that has been serving the Toco community for over 25 years. Its mission is to preserve the natural and social environment of the region through sustainable development projects within the community. It was founded by Michael Als and has received several local and international accolades for its work.
TF’s Agro Tourism Center (ATC) can be considered its foundation stone. Surrounded by a lush seven-acre garden, this self-contained guest facility provides adequate accommodation for both small and large gatherings of up to 50 persons and is within walking distance to beaches, rivers and hiking trails.
Since September 2019 TF has been running a Schools Recycling Programme (SRP) for primary schools from Matura to Matelot aimed at promoting environmental awareness and developing the life-long habit of recycling among students.
The Toco Foundation also collaborates with the Foundation for the Enhancement and Enrichment of Life (FEEL) to provide a Community Medical Relief Clinic with free medical and dental services, and to distribute regular supplies of food, clothes and household items for under-served members in the community.
The Toco Foundation’s focus is on two major projects: the School Clean a River Programme (SCaRP) which is designed to sensitize students and the community about the importance of rivers for their health and the School Renewable Energy Programme (SREP) which aims to educate the community on the benefits and operation of renewable energy devices.
